8 Months, 2 Days
Posted August 3, 2009 in BlackBerry Development FundamentalsThat's how long it takes to 'write' a 500 page computer book. I started the process on December 1st, 2008 and it's pretty much consumed my after-hours life since then. I have:

Reworking Chapter 11
Posted July 3, 2009 in BlackBerry Development FundamentalsNo, not THAT chapter 11, chapter 11 of my book.
Finished the book last night
Posted June 25, 2009 in BlackBerry Development FundamentalsYep, it's finished! Wow, a whole bunch of work that was. Now all I have to do is finish the review/edit phase and (woohoo!) it's ready to publish.
Book Update
Posted June 19, 2009 in BlackBerry Development FundamentalsFinished chapter 16 late last night. The chapter turned out pretty well, better than I expected. All I have left to do writing-wise is finish half of chapter 10. I should be able to complete that by Monday and the writing will be done.
Saturday Morning
Posted June 13, 2009 in BlackBerry Development FundamentalsWell, I'm all alone this weekend and I'm (supposed to be) working on the book. I started chapter 14 Thursday night and my goal is to finish it today. I've decided that if I do this again, I'm going to put each chapter into its own folder - much easier when managing image files (screen shots).
The book is available for pre-order on Amazon.com
Posted June 7, 2009 in BlackBerry Development FundamentalsI just discovered that BlackBerry Development Fundamentals was added to the Amazon catalog today. Yipee!! Here's where you can get it: Amazon.com.
Back to Writing
Posted June 6, 2009 in BlackBerry Development FundamentalsOK, I finally finished getting through the final reviewer's comments. It was arduous - in one chapter, there were more comments than could fit on the page. As much as I hated putting aside the writing to spend an entire week processing a reviewer's comments, their comments in general were helpful for the book. In many cases, they were looking too much at the book from their perspective (how they'd write it) but in others the comments were spot on and helped some of the rough spots in the book.
Wild Weekend
Posted May 31, 2009 in BlackBerry Development Fundamentals, The House, The TwinsOK, so I got sick again- yuck. I was in Columbia, MD and tried to come home Thursday when I got really sick, but my boss (rightfully so) suggested I see how I felt Friday. Well, I felt HORRIBLE Friday and made beeline for home. It was a mess, I was sick all the way home but was able to get on the earliest flight home. Rushed to the house, climbed into bed and spent most of the next 18 hours there. It was the worst I'd felt in years. I went to see my Doctor and turns out I had a 99.6 temperature.
Easiest Chapter Yet
Posted May 13, 2009 in Miscellaneous, BlackBerry Development FundamentalsWell, I had to whack a chapter from the book last night. I can't say which one and I can't say why, but it was one I was really looking forward to writing. Since I no longer have to write it, it's the easiest one I worked on (or didn't work on I guess).
It's Official
Posted April 23, 2009 in BlackBerry Development FundamentalsThe publisher has decided on a title for the book! The book is going to be called BlackBerry Development Fundamentals (the working title was Fundamentals of BlackBerry Development, so this is close to what I was thinking would be a good title). The book should be up on amazon.com soon, look for the book by title or use the ISBN's for the book: ISBN-10: 0321647424 or ISBN-13: 9780321647429.
Halfway
Posted March 16, 2009 in BlackBerry Development FundamentalsWell, I did it. I'm halfway through the book. I finished chapter 8 last night and I'm pretty excited. I'm at about 200 pages right now and per my publishing contract I'm supposed to deliver a book of approximately 400 pages. I also have 17 chapters planned for the book and the last couple of them are pretty short, so at 8 chapters, I'm at about half.
