Explains why I stopped posting here and what my future plans are for the site.Wow, its been a while
Posted July 30, 2017 in MiscellaneousI just realized that the last post here was several years ago (back when Anna and I took a little vacation alone). Sorry about that! We've been doing a lot, but I've just not been writing that much lately. We attended a wedding in Colorado this summer, and we have a lot of photos from that trip, I'll try to make a point of posting those photos when I get a chance.
Our Grand Vacation (Day 3)
Posted August 27, 2015 in MiscellaneousDay three of our vacation started with a great breakfast at Anchuca followed by a tour of the building. I'd not spent much time in any buildings built before the civil war, so it was fun.
My books
Posted April 23, 2015 in Geeking Out, MiscellaneousLooking at the google newsstand for Android. So funny to see how prolific I am compared to that other John Wargo guy. Hard to imagine I failed English in my junior year of high school.
New Job
Posted April 21, 2015 in MiscellaneousI'm getting really excited about my new job. SAP eliminated my job on March 15 and gave me some time to find a new one. That time expired on April 15th, but fortunately I had options lined up. I had essentially three offers and accepted one of them (the one I was most interested in) yesterday.
Snowmobiling
Posted February 2, 2014 in MiscellaneousSpent the weekend in the Ellicottville area snowmobiling with some friends. This picture was taken shortly before I headed to the airport to fly home. The friends I'm with are very close friends I've known for a very, very long time. Interestingly, I remembered later, I met the guy to my left twenty-six years ago today. Amazing.
Airplane Etiquette
Posted February 2, 2014 in MiscellaneousI spent the weekend in Buffalo snowmobiling with some very old friends. As I flew on several Southwest airlines flights I was reminded of a little piece of airplane etiquette that most people don’t think/know of.
Finished Piece
Posted October 27, 2013 in Miscellaneous, The HouseWell, on Friday I finished that piece of furniture I was working on. It turned out great and has already been put in August's room.
Building Some Furniture
Posted October 25, 2013 in Family, Miscellaneous, The HouseOne of the cool things about having a workshop is using it to build stuff. A while back, Anna asked me to put together some shelving for August and Elizabeth's rooms. She wanted something with slots for those collapsible cube storage thingies about 12" by 12" by 12".
Item
Posted September 20, 2013 in MiscellaneousA while back, my brother in law gave me the item shown in the figure below. I’ll let you take a look at it for a minute before I tell you what it is.
Stupid Mobile Application at the YMCA
Posted August 18, 2013 in MiscellaneousOK, so I was registering my daughter for fall Soccer (That’s Football to most of the world) at the local YMCA. The person behind the counter scanned my membership card, so had all of the information she needed to complete the registration except for payment. Actually, that’s not true – they automatically transfer the monthly fee from my checking account, so they even had the information they needed to collect payment as well.
CD Shelving
Posted April 11, 2013 in MiscellaneousI promised all of you some pictures of how the CD shelves turned out. Here ya go!
DMCA Stupidity
Posted January 28, 2013 in MiscellaneousOK, let me see if I got this straight:
Perfect Rice Krispy Treats
Posted January 18, 2013 in MiscellaneousI made a double batch of Rice Krispy treats today. I’m having some neighbors over tonight to play Poker and I thought I’d make something nice for them.
Interesting Amazon Return Request
Posted January 18, 2013 in MiscellaneousI recently finished unpacking all of my stuff in my workshop. Like my Father did, I built a pegboard storage system behind my bench. As part of my 1st of the year reorganization I was moving some stuff around on the pegboard and decided to pick up some new organizers to hang there. One of the things I got was this interesting pegboard mount for a set of wrenches - see photo below.
The Weather Channel
Posted January 17, 2013 in MiscellaneousWanted to fill you in on my last tweet. I was watching the weather channel and they were showing some landslides in a particular county in NC. They showed a house on a particular road then announced (idiots) that the owner of the house is in Colorado at the moment.
Junior Mints
Posted January 3, 2013 in MiscellaneousMy kids know I love Junior Mints. Whenever they’re in a store and see them that grab a box and hold them up for me to see. On Halloween, any time they get some in their bags, they pull them out and give them to me. Pretty cool stuff.
The Big 50
Posted December 25, 2012 in MiscellaneousI turned 50 this year; it was…fun. My back went out twice in the month leading up to the big event, so that was a problem, but I was looking forward to my birthday and had a great time.
Cover Image
Posted December 11, 2012 in MiscellaneousI have been wanting to create something visual to add to the top of this site, plus I needed something for my personal and business Facebook pages. For some reason a random thought popped into my head today - use Picasa to create the image. Picasa (a free image album management application from Google) allows you to select a bunch of pictures and create a random collage from the photos. You can see one of the ones I created at the top of this page - you'll notice I found a way to get a soccer ball in there as well as bacon - plus a bunch of photos of the kids. I need more pics of Anna - need to get some of her in there.
Lands’ End Order Tracker
Posted December 10, 2012 in MiscellaneousI’m a huge fan of Lands’ End (yes, that’s a typo – it’s their typo, not mine) and have been a customer for a very long time. Everyone’s on the Internet now, so you can buy things, check status of orders and even return stuff without ever having to fill out a form or even call a customer service person.
