Our Grand Vacation
Posted August 11, 2015 in Anna, FamilyWe figured out recently that it's been many, many years since Anna and I have taken a vacation together. Recently, my brother in law invited us to join them at their lake house to help celebrate his wife (Anna's sister's)…, um, ah, 30th birthday. I immediately jumped on the chance to have a getaway and Anna quickly approved.
Wireless Microphone
Posted November 7, 2013 in FamilyLast Friday I went to see an instrumental guitarist (Travis Larson Band) perform in concert. It was at a place called the Double Door Inn here in Charlotte and there were like 3 people there when we arrived before the show. Because it was such a small audience, I got a chance to talk with Travis and he mentioned that he was doing a workshop at the local Guitar Center store near us on Wednesday night (last night).
August Playing Guitar
Posted November 6, 2013 in FamilyAugust has been taking guitar lessons for a while. He really enjoys it and he's doing quite well (we think so, but his instructor says so as well). Anna had to go to the school yesterday for an event, so I had to take August there after his lesson. At the prescribed time, I headed over to the house and walked up to his room to see him playing with his instructor. Here's the video.
Building Some Furniture
Posted October 25, 2013 in Family, Miscellaneous, The HouseOne of the cool things about having a workshop is using it to build stuff. A while back, Anna asked me to put together some shelving for August and Elizabeth's rooms. She wanted something with slots for those collapsible cube storage thingies about 12" by 12" by 12".
Mechanical Bull
Posted September 6, 2013 in FamilyElizabeth wanted to ride the mechanical bull at a carnival last weekend. Here's the video:
Chicken with a Cold
Posted February 1, 2013 in FamilyAugust told us he had a sick chicken in a box...
Pinewood Derby 2013
Posted January 27, 2013 in FamilyEvery year, I invite August's Cub Scout pack over to the house to use my tools to create the members pinewood derby cars. It’s a lot of fun, we usually get a great turnout and some pretty interesting cars are made. Afterwards we order some pizza and have a big Cub Scout pizza party. The kids enjoy themselves, Elizabeth chases the boys she likes around the house and the boys pretend that they don’t like her and HATE being chased by her.
Discovering Raspberry Pi
Posted January 27, 2013 in FamilyMany months ago I learned about the Raspberry Pi hobbyist computer (www.raspberrypi.org). Apparently it was created to provide an inexpensive system that kids could use to learn programming. At $35US it really hits the mark.
Sledding with the Siblings
Posted January 2, 2013 in FamilyWe spent this weekend with my siblings in the NC mountains. On Sunday, we headed over to Maggie Valley to do some tubing in the snow, but the place was sold out until 8 PM. We bagged that idea. We decided to take the scenic route home and drove a few miles before turning off onto the Blue Ridge Parkway. Because of the recent snow, the parkway was closed, but a bunch of cars had pulled over and there were a lot of people hiking and enjoying the snow.
Thankful
Posted December 27, 2012 in FamilyAnna and I plus the kids had a wonderful Christmas and we’re basking in the glow of the weekend and the holiday. On Christmas day I had a little time by myself to putz around my office. As I sat there, working through my mail and doing some other simple tasks, I started thinking about my year and all the things I had to be thankful for.
